There've been so many beetly things done in the form of mechanical or otherwise anthro things, that I'm sure it ressembles any of a number of things. The first thing I thought of was the Scarabs pressure suits from Starsiege.
however I can't say I've ever seen something anywhere close to this done in the past, and I think it's an impressive design, if not a well depicted one.
